		<description>Yes, a hammer generally won&#039;t damage a hard drive&#039;s internal platter(s) enough to prevent them from being read by specialized equipment.

However, unfortunately neither will formatting the drive, either. Although formatting clears the drive&#039;s File Allocation Table and re-writes the track sector markers, the data itself isn&#039;t touched and can easily be restored by forensic recovery experts.

Only wiping a disk using well-tested tools gives adequate protection. Grinding it into dust is even better.</description>
